The Wall Street Journal recently reported that telecom giant AT&T has started to completely overhaul its employee training programs for DevOps specifically because of the increasing importance of software-defined networks. According to the news provider, the enterprise believes that roughly three-quarters of its network will be encompassed by SDN within the next five years, and that this has enhanced the need for a greater understanding of the technologies and techniques involved as a result.

This is far from being a one-off situation, as virtually all telecom companies and major enterprises will need to make similar moves in the coming years. “There are a lot of people with really good skills at AT&T but they need to have skills for where we’re going, working in software and a cloud-type of environment,” he told the source.
